Eleri Cwyfan and Cerddi Bangor
I had great pleasure recently looking through several volumes in the Special Collection of old ballads known as Cerddi Bangor, and also reading a diary held in the Archives written by a young boy who sailed ‘round the Horn’ in 1884. I was preparing a presentation on old Welsh Ballads and, at the same time, doing background research for a piece of creative writing, and I will be weaving elements from both sources into my story.
Reading any book is always a pleasure, but having the chance to touch—very carefully!—old original volumes, that could speak volumes themselves about their previous owners, was a special thrill.
