Gwybodaeth amdanom ni

Enwir y Ganolfan ar ôl ei sefydlydd, Dr Stephen Colclough, Uwch Ddarlithydd yn yr Ysgol Llenyddiaeth Saesneg.  Yn arbenigwr nodedig yn ei faes, roedd diddordebau ymchwil Dr Colclough yn cynnwys yr ymateb i gynnydd eithriadol diwylliant printiedig: beth oedd pobl yn ei ddarllen a sut roeddent yn ymateb i'w deunydd darllen rhwng 1700 - 1900.    Fe wnaeth brwdfrydedd ac angerdd Dr Colclough dros y gair printiedig beri iddo argymell sefydlu'r ganolfan ymchwil newydd.  Datblygodd y cynnig yn llwyddiannus yn ystod 2015, gan gynnwys trefnu'r Darlithoedd Shankland cyntaf.  Golygodd marwolaeth annhymig Dr Colclough yn 2015 na fyddai'n gweld ei gynlluniau'n cael eu gwireddu, ond mae'r cyfarwyddwyr presennol wedi ymrwymo i barhau â'i weledigaeth o ganolfan ryngwladol sy'n hyrwyddo cydweithio ac ymchwil i hanes, diwylliant a dyfodol y llyfr.

Mae'r Ganolfan yn hwyluso gweithgaredd a chynnyrch ymchwil, yn cynyddu darpariaeth i ôl-raddedigion ac yn rhoi mwy o amlygrwydd i gasgliadau'r Llyfrgell.  Mae'n cynnal gweithgareddau sy'n arwain at waith cyhoeddedig ar hanes, diwylliant a dyfodol y llyfr, ac ar ddarllen.  Gan adeiladu ar bartneriaethau sy'n bodoli eisoes â chydweithwyr y tu allan i Fangor (yn cynnwys Prifysgol Sheffield Hallam, Prifysgol Ghent, Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru a Choleg Prifysgol Llundain), mae'r Ganolfan yn hyrwyddo cydweithio â phartneriaid allanol drwy gynnal seminarau a chynadleddau, yn ogystal â Darlith Flynyddol Stephen Colclough.  Mae'r Ganolfan yn annog astudio ôl-radd ym maes hanes a diwylliant y llyfr, arferion darllen, a chyhoeddi, drwy ddileu ffioedd MA a rhoi bwrsariaethau i fyfyrwyr PhD sy'n gweithio ar gasgliadau'r Llyfrgell.

Senior Lecturer in Digital Media, Head of School of Creative Studies and Media, editor of the Journal of Gaming and Virtual Worlds
I study the disruptive innovations in the publishing industry and book trade that have come about with the growing potential of digital technologies. I am interested in the ways these technologies are redefining one of our most fundamental tools for knowledge collection, development and sharing: the book. As the son of a book dealer, I have watched the dramatic alterations in the book retail world unfold with the growth of digital and network technologies and cultures. I work with book dealers and publishers, particularly in Wales and New England, to understand of how these technologies can be used, not just to stream-line existing practices but also to develop new ways of adding value to the fundamental book. I apply my work on complexity, spatiality, virtual worlds and temporal space to understand the ways that the space of the book and bookselling evolves.

Dr Sue Niebrzydowski

Senior Lecturer in Medieval English Literature, FHEA

My research profile has always been interdisciplinary in nature, focusing most particularly upon medieval women as consumers of literature. As a member of the International, Leverhulme-funded, international network, Women's Literary Culture and the Literary Canon (http://www.surrey.ac.uk/medievalwomen/index.htm), I am currently engaged in examining the literature that medieval women produced and read about the Virgin Mary, and the kinds of books in which testimony to their Marian devotion has survived.
